Organic has long been a nutrition buzzword, but what does it really mean? To educate Filipinos on the meaning of organic and the benefits of choosing organic European dairy, the EU Organic Dairy PH campaign staged a VIP Consumer Class titled “The Dairy Good Academy”, inspiring them to prepare food with the highest standard of care. Held at The Balmori Tent of Power Plant Mall at Rockwell, Makati City, the event highlighted how consumers can make small choices that impact sustainable nutrition, animal welfare, and the environment.
Understanding Organic European Dairy
The event started with a brief discussion on organic European dairy, highlighting how it complies with the highest farming and production standards set by the European Union. These practices embrace sustainability, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. This ensures that organic European dairy is free from harmful artificial additives, making it naturally good for families.
Afterwards, experts and influencers shared their experience and knowledge about the nutritional benefits of dairy and how it contributes to a balanced diet for families.
Dr. Joanna Cuayo-Estanislao, Pediatrician and Child Health Specialist, explained that dairy can be a good source of nutrients essential for the development of children. Supported by an active and healthy lifestyle, these nutrients can help build stronger bones and support learning and long-term memory.
Making Sustainable Food Choices
After the session, Dr. Estanislao was joined by Eizza De Baron, Content Creator and General Manager of The Baron Method; Trix Lareza-Classara, Glam-O-Mamas’ Digital Marketing Head and Community Admin; and Marie Field-Faith, Mommy Mundo representative. Together, they discussed how moms and homemakers can find authentic organic European dairy products and integrate them into a naturally good diet.
Choosing proper nutrition starts with knowing how to choose organic European dairy. De Baron suggested looking for the EU Organic Logo, which certifies that the product meets European organic standards and is made with utmost care.
For Dr. Estanislao, using dairy in some of your favorite recipes is a nutritious way to maintain a healthy diet, along with regular exercise. “You can add milk in tinola to make it creamier and more nutritious,” she shared. “It can be mixed with smoothies so you can have an accessible intake of protein, fiber, healthy fats, and vitamins.”
Clasara agreed with Dr. Estanislao, saying she also includes dairy in her home-cooked meals. “My kids engage in sports, so they consume a lot of cheese to get their protein. This gives them the energy to power through their morning-to-afternoon training.”
Field takes a more proactive approach. She said she brings her family to the grocery store, teaches them about quality, and lets them prepare their own snacks. “I inform them how to choose their food and where it comes from. You hear a lot of stories about animal cruelty, and you want to put that out of your mind when consuming meals. I want to enjoy food that’s produced well and adheres to rigorous standards,” she said.
A balanced diet goes hand in hand with sustainable nutrition. Dr. Estanislao said there are two ways to look at it. First, does it fit into your lifestyle? Second, is it practical? “If the choices are cost-effective and nutritious, it’s a great way to check off the things you want to achieve.”
She also emphasized the bigger picture. “The brands that we support must reflect our principles, values, and beliefs. The little choices we make can mitigate the impacts of climate change.”
De Baron affirmed Dr. Estanislao’s sentiments, saying, “We only have one Earth. This is the only thing that we can leave to our children.”
